Indigenous Reflection Garden
Through our Religious Education units and conjunction with the ongoing garden maintenance committee and the Sustainability Group, the opportunity arose for developing an Indigenous Reflection Garden around the existing amphitheatre at the front of the school.
Contact was made with Drysdale Landcare regarding plants indigenous to the area. After consultation with Fiona Conroy and Matt Crawley at Drysdale Landcare, 90 seedlings were donated to the school to begin planting in the garden.
During National Reconciliation Week 2012, Matt Crawley spoke to the Year 3 / 4 students about plants indigenous to the area, the appearance of the land before white settlement and the benefits of biodiversity. Matt then showed the students how to plant the seedlings and how to care and maintain for them. Each Year 3 / 4 student then planted their seedlings.
