Our Lady of the Southern Cross is a primary school in a new and growing region of metropolitan Melbourne. Our building have incorporated principles of energy conservation and sustainability with sensor lighting, water tanks and energy effective design.
Our school has a commitment to creating a sustainable environment. Our learning environment includes vegetable, fruit and herb gardens, chicken coop and rabbits. Waste from these animals and from student lunches is recycled in compost and used to fertilise our gardens. Students, teachers and parents take an active role in developing our sustainable environment and we are constantly extending our action projects to develop the knowledge and practices within our community.
We seek to use our resources wisely and connnect learning experiences to community partnerships with Werribee Zoo, Iramoo Nursery and our local nurseries. Our next endeavours are to improve our waste management and build on our energy conservation strategies.
