At Melbourne City School we are committed to developing a sense of awareness for how our resource use impacts on the environment. We will nurture a love of nature and take responsibility by acting in ways that will allow future generations to enjoy and appreciate the natural world.
Melbourne City School’s guiding educational principle is one of personalised learning, whereby the voice of students is heard, expressing their needs and sharing in decisions.

Our students collaborate with a Learning Advisor, rather than ‘teacher’. Working alongside our students, the Learning Advisor encourages self-direction and the ability to learn from personal experience, unlocking the talents of every individual to help them on their way to a lifetime of self-discovery and fulfilment.
The critical dispositions and attributes that we foster in our young people are self-management, problem solving, cultural sensitivity and personal integrity.

Over its near 40-year history, ELTHAM College has continually adapted its education philosophy in ways that make schooling relevant to young people, better preparing them for the realities of our fast-changing world. The Melbourne City School continues that process in an environment that provides our students with access to a unique range of city-based learning experiences to complement their formal curriculum.

Our focus is on providing personalised attention for young people, empowering them to successfully learn the skills and foster the dispositions required to be successful 21st Century global citizens.
Melbourne City School students will learn to manage their post-school ambitions through their passion and talent to be self-directed life-long learners. Teaching literacy and numeracy is part of a broad set of enabling skills that include: technological and scientific literacy; learning to learn and becoming self-directed; collaboration and teaming; and social and academic problem solving.

The celebration of individuality and diversity is one of our core values. As a non-selective school we offer a diverse community and one where academic and vocational learning are valued equally.
