The Student Environment Leadership Program (SELP) is a hands-on program that guides students to lead sustainable change at their school. Across four one-hour sessions, they learn about sustainability, set goals, and plan eco-friendly projects in a fun and challenging way. They gain knowledge, skills and capabilities, ready to implement their green initiatives.
PROGRAM INCLUSIONS
A CERES educator will guide students through:
- Building knowledge in the environment in one focus area of either waste, water, energy, or biodiversity
- Setting clear and achievable goals
- Research and documentation creation
- Communicating this ideas to the wider school community
The incursion is divided into four one-hour sessions completed over the course of a single school day. The students will:
- Recognise and define the qualities of a leader and how they create change.
- Understand important information about the environment to inform project planning.
- Construct a vision and goal for a project informed by group collaboration.
- Analyse their goals to identify its opportunities and barriers.
- Collect information from a range of sources.
- Assemble a timeline of tasks to inform a project plan.
- Evaluate the project planning process to inform future decision making.
STUDENT ENVIRONMENT LEADERSHIP PROGRAM incursion
A CERES Student Programs educator will guide students through leadership training, problem solving, research and completion of an energy, water, biodiversity or waste audit.
Your incursion will include 4 x 1-hour sessions (in-person), structured as follows:
social & environmental issues
- Learn about current social and environmental issues and solutions (e.g. climate change, habitat loss and or pollution).
- Explore personal and social capabilities
Explore Student Voice & Agency
- Explore student voice, agency and leadership by creating an action plan to create change at school.
- Participate in group discussions and hands-on activities
Design & Build Sustainability Project
- Complete an audit to find out what’s happening at your school.
- Design and build a project to improve sustainability at school (e.g. an insect hotel).
