2022 Northern Metropolitan Region Update

CERES is currently delivering ResourceSmart Schools to 65 primary and secondary schools across the northern metropolitan region.

Up to May 2023, schools in the northern metropolitan region have collectively saved $239,614 on resource usage through ResourceSmart Schools during the year. The following environmental savings have also been achieved:

837,958 kilowatt hour per year reduction in electricity use

1,905 cubic metres of waste diverted from landfill

12,679 megalitre reduction in water use

1,013 tonnes of green house gas emissions decreased

Term Three Progress Workshop

Date: Monday, 28 August 2023
Time: 9am-3pm
Location: St Monicas Junior College – 400 Dalton Rd, Epping VIC 3076

Schools working with CERES are invited to join us to spend a productive day of facilitated support on ResourceSmart Schools! There will also be an opportunity to network with other schools in your region.

The workshop is designed to support Sustainability Coordinators and other teachers/educators and staff involved in sustainability from schools working through the program. CERES facilitators will be there to help you make progress on the modules and Stars you are working on.

Our Progress Workshop is limited to northern metro region schools, and each school receives two free tickets for this event. Additional tickets are available for $75 + GST.

Please note: This workshop is only available for ResourceSmart Schools working with CERES. If your school is located in the northern or southern metro Melbourne region and interested in joining ResourceSmart Schools, please complete our online expression of interest form.

CERES is currently delivering ResourceSmart Schools to 108 primary and secondary schools across the southern metropolitan region.

Up to February 2023, schools in the southern metropolitan region have collectively saved $310,189 on resource usage through ResourceSmart Schools during the year. The following environmental savings have also been achieved:

1,107,227 kilowatt hour per year reduction in electricity use

1,295 cubic metres of waste diverted from landfill

26,682 megalitre reduction in water use

1,311 tonnes of green house gas emissions decreased

Other events

Sustainability & Wellbeing for Students with Special Needs Workshop

Date: Thursday 27th July

Time: 10:00am – 2:30pm

Location: Online & Free across Victoria!

If you’re a ResourceSmart specialist school or a mainstream school catering for students with special needs, join us online for a free workshop. Broken up into three segments, we will cover:

ResourceSmart Schools in a specialist school setting (Dominique Dyabla)

Empowering students with special needs through sustainability and action (Genee Marks, Deakin University)

Fostering wellbeing through nature for children with special needs (Kate Neale, Southern Cross University)

+ throughout the day there will be lots of opportunities for questions, open discussions, informal sharing, and some school presentations.
