Canteens tend to be the source of most litter in primary and secondary schools.
Here is a great opportunity for your school to ensure it is providing healthy food for students plus being mindful of the impact that your canteen is having on the natural environment.
The Healthy Together Healthy Eating Advisory Service supports schools to meet the requirements of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s School Canteens and Other School Food Services Policy.
The policy applies to all school food services, such as the canteen, special events, vending machines and foods used in curriculum activities. This also includes externally contracted canteens and food services such as caterers and food and drinks provided by a local milk bar or a bakery.
It is mandatory for all Victorian Government schools, and is strongly recommended for implementation in independent and Catholic schools.
