This program supports sustainability practices in schools and contributes to council’s environment and sustainability goals.

Primary – Prep to Grade 2

What is offered to schools:

Biodiversity

  • Excursions Year 7 to Year 10, as well as VCE Biology Unit 2 – Excursion to Werribee Open Range Zoo to investigate the Grassland Ecosystem by exploring the diversity that exists between animals, plants and other organisms, which used to dominate the vegetation cover in Wyndham.

Energy

  • Year 3 to Year 10 – CERES Mobile Energy Classroom Incursion, sessions will explore renewable energy technologies as students generate their own energy, see solar panels making electricity to power common appliances and learn how to be part o the solution.
  • Prep to Year 2 – CERES Power Rangers Incursion, students explore the different forms of energy, how they are created and explore ways it can be conserved around the home and at school.
  • Year 3 to Year 6 and Year 7 to Year 10 – CERES Do More with LESS workshop, supports students to let their inner-leader shine and carry out sustainability projects at home and/or school in this 4 hour energy focused program through student-led energy audits and getting hints and tips on making projects successful through communication. Perfect for your school’s Green Team at the start of the year.

Waste and Litter

  • Incursions focusing on: Waste and Recycling, Food Waste to Compost and Worm farms, Litter
  • Worm Farming or Compost Bins at a discounted rate through Compost Revolution
  • Baseline Waste Audits to help your school plan waste reduction / prevention activities.
  • Clean Up Days – Wyndham City will provide schools that organise clean-up days or sites with extra bags, gloves and syringe containers and will collect the rubbish from the site. To register for Clean Up Australia Day, please visit Clean Up Australia

  • Prep to Year 8 – City West Water offers a suite of free resources for Wyndham schools, including a variety of free incursions, and can be linked to the Water – learn it. live it. curriculum resource.

Teachers’ Environment Network

  • Teachers across Wyndham get together once a term to share knowledge, experiences and skills in regards to environmental education and projects happening in schools.
  • Wyndham City supports teachers in delivering an integrated and locally relevant sustainability curriculum.
