David De Angelis, a former Whitefriars College student, took a group of enthusiastic nature loving staff, students and parents into the College Bushland on August 29th. The pair of Powerful Owls had been spotted in the Mullum Mullum Valley for several years. However, with recent bike track and storm water construction and renovations in the valley, the owls had not been spotted or heard. As the cockatoos settled into their burrows and the darkness grew, the group waited and searched in hope. Unfortunately, no sightings or sounds were recorded. A few days later, a staff member who lives in a nearby street told me she had heard the powerful owls in her back yard. It was reassuring news.
