WaterWatch at Nunawading Christian College
Each Monday afternoon during term 3, the Year 4 and 5 students have been trekking down to Blackburn Lake where they met with our educator from Melbourne Water. We were lucky to be one of the schools selected for this five week program, involving many science related activities.
At the lake, the students were involved in water testing for harmful phosphates, examining stormwater drains, exploring turbidity, clarity, flow and particles, then watching for typical wetland birds and other wildlife living at the lake.
The students also enjoyed visiting the creek along the school property to test their new skills. They have made a commitment to make regular trips to the creek to keep it clear of rubbish. We often see them returning from the creek with bags of rubbish!
