After a prolonged illness Peter Biro passed away suddenly and peacefully at Maroondah Hospital, Ringwood on the 1st of September 2014. Peter was a founding member of VAEE, an environmental educator of the year and a life member of both VAEE and AAEE.
Gentle, kind and clever he was an enigma to the end.
A celebration of his life will take place at Heritage & Heritage Funerals, 733 Boronia Rd Wantirna on Monday 8th September at 10.00am. All welcome. Tea and refreshments following the service will give you an opportunity to catch up with old friends.
Remembering Peter by Greg Hunt
“I first met Peter when I joined VAEE in early 1986. We were up in the late hours walking along the beach at Erskine House at the 1986 AAEE conference and he was pointing out the bioluminescent algae with incredible delight. That was Peter.
He was resistant to what he dismissively called the ‘New Eingana’, available as a result of the two-disc Pagemaker software. Bill Psarras championed the change and Wayne Wescott designed centre-stapled booklets on VAEE’s early Apple Mac. Corner-stapled Gestetner editions had been sufficient for years. Here was the computer nerd arguing against it. That too was Peter. Enigmatic? Indeed. But always totally committed to environmental education – and that was the Peter we honour.”
