Urban Farm Program
Our VCAL Urban Farm program has centred around augmenting and improving our campus at number 1 Gleadell St, with emphasis on vegetable gardens and new planted [2014] orchard with miniature and composite fruit trees; we have improved our watering systems via water tanks and rain water harvesting, looking to upgrade and initiate an aquaponics unit and chicken house on site; part of the process has been to engage our students in propagation, preparation, planting, maintaining and harvesting the food systems, facilitating a holistic learning environment with integrated curriculum approaches and flexible learning settings and models.
Funding has been through community grants from city of yarra and future funding will be sought to continue and upgrade the program to include a more complete whole of school approach.
