A recent purchase of 20 timers aims to reduce wasted energy. As behaviour change is difficult without experiencing immediate negative or positive responses such as money saving or intrinsic satisfaction, we decided to opt for simple, cheap technologies to assist in reducing our $2400 per month energy bill. Further proposals explored have been to draw on unit budgets, allocating energy savings to unit’s budgets (when saving from previous years occurs), energy saving computer programs, installation of sensor lighting, installation of sky lights in key areas and of course, student monitors to turn lights and computers off when not in use.
