Swordgrass Brown Butterfly
The Sword-grass Brown Butterfly is indigenous to the area but its survival is being threatened by urban development. St. Bernadette’s Primary School is involved in the Sword-grass Brown Butterfly Project, initiated by the Knox Environment Society in 1993. The aim of the Sword-grass Brown Butterfly Project is to not only see the continuing survival of the Sword-grass Brown Butterfly, but to ensure that it thrives locally. In collaboration with other schools and the Knox City Council in 1993, the school has fenced off an area in the school grounds to preserve the natural habitat of this butterfly.
