In 2012, Rosamond Special School has been working towards achieving our Energy Module certification for ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic. This means that we have learnt about turning off lights, computers and other devices when possible as well as students making signs to display around our classrooms.
We are fortunate to have buses to transport most of our students to school, rather than every child travelling by car. This is another way we reduce our fuel/energy consumption.
We have had the support of Kirsty from CERES (funded by DEECD) who helped us with energy efficiency in our heating and cooling regimes, professional development for all staff, and applying for grants for energy saving measures for the new school in 2013.
It is very exciting to let you know that we were successful in applying for a Federal Government Grant for:
“A Solar Panel array of 70 panels and all necessary materials and equipment including a data logging system. We will be able to generate a fair amount of no cost electricity towards our requirements and reduce our carbon footprint in not relying on as much coal fired generated power.”
