CERES Outreach Education is continuing to expand its reach within the Early Childhood sector and as a result has introduced a new member to the team – the wonderful Lauren Kaszubski. Lauren has worked onsite at CERES Education for 4 years delivering excursions to the many students who visit each year. More recently, Lauren has designed and delivered a range of early childhood excursions/ incursions. She brings a wealth of knowledge specialising in waste management and will be an invaluable part of our team. Welcome Lauren!

Fifteen inspiring Early childhood centres are now participating in the ResourceSmart in Early Childhood program with CERES facilitation in 2016/17. Some centres are commencing their sustainability journey whilst others are consolidating all of their hard work and streamlining their processes to address the National Quality Standards (NQS) requirements. A special shout out to our partners Moreland City Council, Hume City Council, Banyule City Council, YMCA and TRY Australia. We thank you for your ongoing support.

A major highlight recently included collaborating with TRY Australia to deliver a large scale professional development event at CERES. Over 100 TRY Australia educators participated in hands on workshops including Sustainable Cooking, Art for Nature, Composting & Gardening and Buzzing with Energy. In addition, the educators raced around CERES competing in the ‘CERESly Amazing Race’ learning about its sustainability features and competing to be the first team across the line. Furthermore, in order to reduce food waste and showcase the educator’s culinary skills, morning and afternoon tea was created through the sustainable cooking workshop. The recipes were also distributed in order to be replicated back at the individual centres. One educator summed up the high energy day by saying ‘It was educational and well communicated, will be easy to implement within our service!’. A great outcome from a fun and inspiring day!
