In Term 3 2011, Point Cook College P-9 College held its first ever ‘Green Week’, in which we all celebrated ways to help the environment and share the beauty of our planet. There was a large increase in the different ways we came to school, how we packed our lunches and the learning we shared with each other on issues about the environment. Congratulations and Thank You to our Year 5-8 Green Gang Environmental Leadership Team who took responsibility for running all the activities as well as the organisational and journalist roles throughout Green Week.

A special Point Cook P-9 community thank you to the following Sustainability Service providers who volunteered their time to run Environmental Activities throughout the week. Thank you to ; David Ponsford (Parks Victoria), Donna Shiel (Wyndham Council), Meg Cullen (Birds Australia), Annette Cook (Bird
Observers Club Australia) and Kelli Williams (City West Water).

Students in Years 5-8 also enjoyed creating energy through riding the bikes with “Furture Sparks Energy Trailer” – thanks to Geoff Ball for a great day and well done to 7M for generating the most energy. Students in Years P-4 enjoyed the performances around Biodiversity (A Little Bush Magic) and Energy (Circus Sustainable) by Sustainable Theatre Company “Vox Bandicoot”, a real highlight of the week. It was terrific to see all the Prep to Twos wearing their bandicoot ears, being spell bound by the show– not one pair of ears was twitching at one stage!!

Thank You to all the Point Cook Staff for planning great learning activities throughout Green Week and creating the most spectacular door decorations from recycled materials. The ideas were brilliant and the judging was tough.

Thanks to our Staff Sustainability Action Team and our Green Gang for all their hard work planning the week. A very special thank to Melbourne Water and The Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne for their generous donations for our Showbags.
