WHAT HAPPENED?
Today we planted our vegetable and herb garden at preschool!
We had lots of willing helpers.
First we turned the soil to make it loose and soft for our seedlings.
Then we worked out where and how we would plant our seedlings.
Plants need space to grow. They look small now, but they are going to grow!
We planted them in rows, leaving enough growing space for each plant.
We noticed that our snow peas looked a little floppy. We will tie then on some sticks so that they can grow upwards. Snow peas like to climb, and they become very tall.
When we finished planting, we watered our seedlings to help them grow big and strong.

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING?

LEARNING OUTCOMES
2 – CHILDREN ARE CONNECTED WITH AND CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR WORLD
We are learning about life cycles and sustainability
We are learning to care about and look after living things
4 – CHILDREN ARE CONFIDENT AND INVOLVED LEARNERS
We are beginning to understand where food comes from

NATIONAL QUALITY STANDARD

WHERE TO FROM HERE?

We will need to be patient as we watch and wait for our vegetables to grow.
We will look after our garden as it grows, and watch as the miracle of nature unfolds.
We will use our garden vegetables and herbs in cooking experiences at preschool.
We will talk about sustainable practices we can employ at preschool.
