Our Frog Bog…

In 2015 we investigated the types of animals that existed in a healthy wetland. Andrew came with a collection of water invertebrates from the La Trobe Wildlife Sanctuary and we collected samples from our frog bog and compared this with the Sanctuary sample.

Our Frog bog had clear water, but didn’t have anywhere near as many animals and we hadn’t seen or heard frogs for a long time. We concluded that this was as a result of the rubbish, weeds and general structure of the frog bog.

We then conducted a couple of clean up and weeding sessions to improve the look and health of the frog bog and in 2016 we are hoping to re-investigate the water sample and find out whether we can continue to improve the water quality and school biodiversity.

2016 Update

In first term we discovered frogs in the frog bog, both tadpoles and frog calls were apparent. If we improve the frog bog even further we could encourage a diversity of animals into this micro habitat.
