KILLARA’S WORLD WATER DAY ASSEMBLY PRESENTATION 2022 – SD 480p
Killara Primary School in Sunbury is very proud of our efforts to look after the environment and be as sustainable as possible. At our assembly this week (Monday) we dressed up and presented our tips for saving water at school and at home and reminded all our students about World Water Day (Tuesday).
HEROs (Heating, Electricity, Recycling Officers) from each classroom dressed as sea creatures, showers, toilets, taps and water drops to get the message across that water is precious and needs to be used sustainably. Our School Captains presented a wonderful informative speech reminding students how they can do this at home and at school.
This was their speech to the crowd of students and parents attending our assembly.
Hi Everyone,
We are here this afternoon to let you know that tomorrow is WORLD WATER DAY.
World Water Day is held on the 22nd of March each year. It’s such an important day that focusses on making people aware of the importance of water and what actions we can take to help save as much water as possible in our daily lives, but also to keep our waterways clean.
Did you know that there are more than 2 billion people living without clean water? A lot of us can’t imagine that, as we just turn on a tap and out it comes.
There are many ways to look after water – here are just a few……
- Take a look around your home – can you find any water leaks? Dripping taps can be easily fixed and a lot of water can be saved.
- Pay attention to how long your showers are – Yes, we know some people love a long, hot shower but, oh, the water it wastes. Try to keep your showers to 3 to 4 minutes. Maybe take a bath instead!
- Most toilets these days have 2 flush buttons – try using the half flush button as much as possible.
- When you are brushing your teeth – turn the tap on and off, don’t let it keep running.
- Use a water efficient shower head – that will save a heap of water.
- Remind your parents that washing machines and dishwashers should be full before they are put on.
- Water your garden in the morning before the sun gets too hot and evaporate the water.
- Encourage your parents to plant native plants and trees – they don’t need as much water to survive.
- Don’t drop rubbish on the ground – as it blows into our waterways and then ends up in the ocean to harm our beautiful sea creatures – LIKE THE ONES YOU CAN SEE AROUND YOU TODAY.
DO THE RIGHT THING, NOT ONLY TODAY OR TOMORROW, BUT EVERY DAY.
SAVE WATER, SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT.
THANK YOU.
