With the arrival of our therapy dog Sydney, came the inevitable, holes dug up all over the place! We couldn’t keep her out of the veggie garden so we had no choice but to make it higher. The Advance team at SRCS put their thinking caps on and came up with an idea that was both sustainable and dog-proof!

After sourcing recycled apple crates and reading up on wicking systems all was ready to go. Over a series of afternoons the Advance crew weather-proofed the apple crates, set them in place and then filled them with organic matter.

Placed at the front of the school we now have five crates full of seasonal produce and perennial herbs. The crates are high enough to keep Sydney from digging holes in them, are continually producing beautiful edibles that are used weekly in the school canteen and have created a lovely green entrance to the school.
