Welcome to Worawa’s Journey. We want to share with you our experiences and projects as we go though the process of becoming a ResourceSmart School from the perspective of a small private boarding school in the rural urban fringe of Victoria.
Worawa, as a school is over 30 years old. It’s purpose to educate young Aboriginal students with a parallel focus on Indigenous Culture and Curriculum. We are currently an all girls school for years 7-10 (next year will increase to year 11 VCAL). We deliver our curriculum from ACARA as many of our enrolments are from the Northern Territory.
This is my third year at Worawa, I teach Careers and Caring for Country and have the Ranger Program under my wing too. This year I am the reason we are starting ResourceSmart. I see sustainability as a way of reinforcing our acknowledgement to country…
We would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri people. The original custodians of this land which we all now live. We pay our respects to elders past and present and will do our best to take care of this land and look after each other well.
I hope that through this channel you will be able to share our journey, learn about Indigenous culture and feel connected to our story.
Regards
Kerry
