Garden Club is accessed by all of our primary school students. It is run twice a week during lunchtimes. Children plant, water, mulch and harvest vegetables. If there is a surplus of vegetables, such as pumpkins, or beetroots, we have organised cooking groups. Students made pickled beetroot and pumpkin soup this year.

We discuss soil health with our students. We use our own compost to improve soil quality. Children also understand the importance of mulching garden beds to improve water retention and soil health. During Term 3 this year we have watched 2040 and have been able to connect C02 and our vegetables as they draw carbon down from the atmosphere. This ‘real-life’ connection has been extremely valuable for our children to see and experience how they can make a positive impact on the climate and produce produce for consumption.
