After 6 wonderful years as CERES Incursions Manager, I am excited to announce that I am moving on to another life adventure – to study Art Therapy! However, I know I will also feel a huge sense of loss at leaving so many passionate and inspiring colleagues. It has been a pleasure to work with people who dedicate so much of their time to environmental education and ensuring the next generation feels empowered to make positive change in the world.
Since I began in 2008, CERES Incursions has grown from strength to strength. Our Incursion programs are now stronger than ever and with such a wonderful team of educators, it is exciting to know these will continue to be delivered with passion and expertise. In particular I am looking forward to seeing our ‘Do More with LESS’ Student Leadership Program flourish through 2014 and onwards.
As I cleaned my desk today, I also felt a level of nostalgia rising as I recalled all the wonderful projects and initiatives that CERES Incursions has been a part of over the years. But most of all I am proud to acknowledge just how many people we have reached through our programs. On that note, I thought I would just quickly share some stats:
Between Jan 2010-June 2014 we facilitated Incursions and sustainability workshops for:
• 38,264 students across Victoria
• 3,483 children from early learning centres across metropolitan Melbourne
• 3,991 adults through various council events and Teacher Environment Network (TEN) meetings
The CERES Energy Trailer has also been highly successful, attending over 85 community events and 165 schools in both metropolitan and regional areas, since 2008. This is currently undergoing extensive renovation and we look forward to it being available again by 2015.
I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce Nilima Parte and wish her the best of luck in her new role as Incursions Coordinator. She will no doubt do a splendid job!
With many thanks and a fond farewell. It has been quite a ride!
