Composting at Manchester
Composting at Manchester Primary
Manchester has been composting for over 10 years using compost bins. This was very successful for a while as it was closely monitored by a teacher. We had beautiful composted soil which we used in the vegetable garden.
Unfortunately the staff member was no longer available to monitor the operation so anything and everything went into the compost bin with no consideration to layering etc. So it turned into a big gooey mess that attracted heaps of vinegar flies.
We now trench our compost straight into a vegetable garden bed and cover with soil as we go. The idea is that it will naturally compost before we use that bed again.
Keep posted for results.
