At Barry Beckett we purchased a new Green Cone from Manningham city council.

This type of food digester can decompose every kind of food –dairy, meat, fish etc.- with no bad odour and completely safe from rats and other animal.

The Green cone not only is helping us in reducing the amount of food waste we send to the landfill but it is also helping us breaking down our clay soil and improve its fertility.

I strongly suggested.

Children have two different colour bins. One for compost and one for the green cone waste. They are able to sort their food scraps and place their waste in the right bin. Once a day children take turn to dispose our waste in the appropriate bins. They even remember to put some brown material in our compost bin (which at the moment is shared paper from the office).

The NQS states that services take an active role in caring for its environment and contributes to a sustainable future (standard 3.3)

Learning Outcome 2: Involving children in waste management and allowing them to be involved in sustainable practices. Give them a sense of responsibility and confidence to make choices that contribute to a more sustainable future. Children are connected with and contribute to their world.
