Our Lady of Lourdes is situated at the foothills of the Dandenongs.

Since 2010 our whole school have participated in class ‘Sustainability Days’ each term during which students tend to our veggie garden, indigenous garden and other parts of the school grounds – including the worm farm, compost bins and other garden areas.

As part of our participation in the Resource Smart AussiVic Biodiversity module OLOL conducted a biodiversity audit of our school grounds. (Video images of the audit can be seen on our Sustainability Hub page). Our year 5 sudents of 2011, along with Jim from Greening Australia and representatives of the Knox Council, conducted the audit and developed an action plan. Our work in the area of Biodiversity has centred around the implementation of these actions.

Prep to Year 4 students have learnt about Biodiversity through curriculum based inquiry learning. The Junior school unit, titled “We Care”, investigated ways we can care for our environment. The Middle school looked at the human impact on ecosystems and habitats. All classes were also involved in Melbourne Water’s Water Watch lessons.
