Join our expert educators and explore all things farming. Discover where food comes from, the effects different methods of farming can have on our environment and how organic, local food systems can regenerate ecosystems, culture and community.

Full day:
10am – 2pm
$590 per group

Half Day:
$440 per group

(Max group size 25 students)
+ $10 booking fee

One adult : 20 students
Minimum of 2 staff per class group

Our educators will guide students through problem solving and action planning to create change within their school community and explore solutions to increase local food production at school or home.

Key questions for students to consider:

F-Y2 What are pollinators and mini beasts? Why are they important to our farms? What is compost and how does it help us to grow food?

Y3-10 How has using chemicals impacted our farms and environment? How does caring for our soil help to tackle climate change? What are some current solutions to transform our food system?

Years F – 2

  • Discover what ‘urban farm’ means and how it can benefit the community and the environment
  • Get up close and feed our chickens
  • Discover the wonderful world of mini-beasts and their role in creating healthy soil
  • Develop the skills to create a home or school compost and understand its role in regenerating soils
  • Learn about plant lifecycles and how to grow and care for a seed

Years 3 – 10

  • Find out the day in the life of an Urban Farmer
  • Discover the practical considerations needed when starting an edible garden at home or school
  • Discover how looking back at Indigenous farming practices can assist our food security into the future
  • Develop the skills to create a home or school compost system and understand its role in regenerating soils

You’ll receive a school teacher guide, including instructions for optional activities to do before and after your excursion at CERES to get your students thinking, discussing and actively contributing to a world that is environmentally sustainable for all living creatures.

Years F – 2

  • Identify the role that mini-beasts and microorganisms play in creating healthy soil
  • Understand the stages of seed germination and identify what its needed to help plants grow
  • Understand that there are a variety of farming methods, some having lower impact on the environment than others
  • Discover what ‘urban farming’ means and how it can benefit the community and the environment
  • Consider the animals involved in our food system

Years 3 – 10

  • Discover what ‘urban farming’ means and how it can benefit the community and the environment
  • Explore and understand the different practical skills of organic garden/farming practices
  • Identify the different processes needed to create compost and understand its role in regenerating soils
  • Explore our global diet and identify the role of Indigenous knowledge and bushfoods can have on our food security into the future
